"Sitting silently beside a friend who is hurting may be the best gift we can give." - unknown
What do you say to someone who’s depressed?
It's difficult to find the appropriate words and this can often lead us to maybe say, well.... the wrong things.
This occurs because we have been taught when someone approaches us with a problem, we must try and solve it. This is not entirely true, especially when someone is in need of emotional and mental support.
Most times all that is needed is a safe space to hang out and to lend a listening ear. Try and be as present as you can, listen with all your heart and avoid falling into the urge of offering advice.
Try these suggestions if you find yourself supporting a loved one who is depressed.
* Express how much they matter to you.
* Tell them you enjoy spending time with them.
* Reassure them their feelings are valid.
* Tell them you will check-in and follow through.
* Say, "I BELIEVE IN YOU".
Peace & Love
