Six Practices That Will Help You Feel Confident

Unfortunately, as hard as we may try... (and trust me I have tried and over tried) nothing outside of ourselves will provide the long lasting confidence we may be seeking. Nope... nothing, nada, zilch.

If you want to improve your self confidence it's got to be from the inside out.

So, what is self confidence, anyway?

Confidence is the ability to believe in yourself - no matter what.

We all have it in us to be confident. It just takes practice... like anything else thats worth working for.

So here are some practices that help build the self-confidence you've been looking for. 

Set Small Goals

Maybe there is something new you've been wanting to try... like learning to cook or taking up yoga. Instead of going all out and trying to cook a gourmet meal, try a simple recipe first then build off that. Shoot for something achievable and you'll feel good about yourself because competence equals confidence.

Be Grateful

Yes, I know everyone is telling you to practice gratefulness... but that's because it quickly puts you in a feel good state. Being grateful helps you get unstuck from focusing on the negative and moves you to appreciating what is good in your life. List three things that you really appreciate. Try practicing in the morning before getting out of bed and in the evening before going to sleep.

Compliment Yourself

Give at least one compliment to yourself everyday. Oh, and you have to say it looking in the mirror. Yup, I know... it's going to feel awkward at first but it's really important to look at yourself while you do this, just like you would when giving a friend a compliment. Look at yourself, don't overthink it and just do it!

Stand Tall

Shoulders back and stand proud! Body language and posture hugely affect how we feel so it's important to stand straight and feel rooted. Amy Cuddy has an awesome TED Talk on how our body language can shape who we are. 

Meditate

When you meditate you become more self-aware, you begin to look at life more positively and this will naturally help you feel better about yourself. All you need is a few minutes a day of focusing on your breathe and you'll feel the meditation magic start to happen.

Get Out Of Your Comfort Zone

Push yourself to do things that are uncomfortable, at least once a day (you know what that is for you). Whether you succeed is not important. You'll feel good for taking the initiative and this will lead you to taking on more challenges and that's where the growth happens.

Above all, remember this... you already know what it takes. Going within, doing the work and then allow the changes to happen. When your at peace with yourself you will naturally radiate confidence.
